Our ornery little nephews, brothers Alex and Bryce were diagnosed with Duchenne muscular dystrophy in August of 2012. Duchenne muscular dystrophy (DMD) is a genetic, degenerative, and terminal muscle disease where their muscles will gradually weaken and cease to function over time. The progressive muscle weakness leads to serious medical problems, particularly issues relating to the heart and lungs. It is an X-linked disorder so it typically affects mainly boys. Those with DMD are typically in a wheelchair by age 7-12 with an average life expectancy of 20-30 years. There is no cure.
We have been able to see firsthand not only the emotional toll on Alex and Bryce’s family but also the financial burden as well. Watching loved ones deal with something as debilitating as Duchenne muscular dystrophy can leave you feeling helpless, even though you’d like nothing more than to help them. So, our purpose in starting and building bassackwards tees™ has always been about much more than just selling t-shirts, or making money; it is about our commitment to contributing a portion of all profits towards our fight to find a cure for Alex and Bryce, and thousands of other little boys around the world who are living with this horrible disease. Our commitment to funding DMD research is a way to do our part, although small, in helping to change lives. We thank you from the bottom of our hearts for your purchase, and your small part in this very important cause.
This is about much more than just selling t-shirts.
This is personal.
